Sedation Dentistry

Based on your child’s specific needs and treatment, we offer sedation options to help your child feel relaxed and at ease. Every child is different, and we acknowledge that every appointment can be different as well. At times, sedation may be needed to make your child’s visit more comfortable and ensure the best, positive experience. Based on your child’s individualized needs and treatment, we offer a variety of sedation options that include nitrous oxide and general anesthesia.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, often called “laughing gas,” creates a gentle feeling of relaxation and mild euphoria for many patients. Always combined with oxygen, it’s one of the safest and most widely used forms of sedation in pediatric dentistry. It takes effect quickly and helps your child feel calm and comfortable during preventive, restorative, or surgical procedures, all while staying awake and able to respond.

We deliver it through a small mask that rests gently over your child’s nose. When the procedure is finished, your child breathes pure oxygen for about 5 to 10 minutes to clear the nitrous from their system. Because the effects wear off so quickly, your child can return to their normal daily activities right after the visit.

Who Is a Candidate for Sedation Dentistry?
